Summer of 2015

I had borrowed a wheel from my High School class with teacher approval. At home I made pottery on the front porch of my family’s house or at the back of our driveway near the garage.

December 2015-2016 Summer

At the end of my Freshman semester I discovered the Wheelhouse Studios on campus in the basement of Memorial Union where I could continue to do pottery without enrolling in classes or costing high studio fees.

Fall 2016-2017 Summer

Over Sophomore year I lived only two blocks away from the Wheelhouse. During the Spring semester I applied to work there and began before summer as a Creative Consultant in charge of greeting, studio operation, and group activities. This is when I led beginner lessons on pottery during Free Art Friday.

Fall 2017-2018 Summer

In my Junior year I experimented a bit more but I have less pictures of this period. Whether it was from lack of pictures or increase of workload I do not recall.

2018-2019 BioHouse Mugs

Beginning in Spring 2018 I worked on making 100 mugs for the BioHouse division of UW-Madison Housing. It was a Learning Community in one of the dorms where I spent Freshman year and worked as a Programming Assistant for three years.

2019 Art Lofts

At the end of my Senior year I was enrolled in a beginners pottery class from the UW-Madison Art Department. This was the first actual class I had taken for art since High School. It was great to have a teacher and learn techniques I was unfamiliar with like slipcasting.

Too bad the chameleon stein did not turn out well, I think I used it as a planter before I gave it away.

2019-2020 Wheelhouse

Before the Pandemic Plight of 2020 I continued to make pottery at the Wheelhouse. A small set was my first experience with wood stocked salt firing. This includes the three stooges leaning on each other where they fused together. Only two years later did they come apart mysteriously on their own.

That’s all my history for now. There’s a period from 2012 to ‘15 where I did pottery in High School but had not taken many pictures.
